So, I donned my workout gear—a vibrant mix of colors that could only be described as “eccentrically bold”—and set off on my quest for fitness. The promised land. Exodus is about leaving Egypt. Leaving old unconstructive habits. Exodus of emotional dependency on high calories & addictive over consumption.

 

As I lifted weights that felt heavier than my existential ponderings, I discovered a vital truth: each repetition is a step toward becoming a superhero—minus the cape, which would only hinder my efforts during burpees.

Sometimes, I felt fantastic while dressing up, but once outside, self-consciousness crept in as I imagined others gazing at me, as if to say, “, “Who does she think she is?” In jest, I could channel my inner Kanye, and yell at the top of my lungs yell “I Already told YOU WHO I THINK I AM GOD!…., in jest…. Of course, but wouldn’t it be delightful if people didn’t stare as though they hadn’t seen a walking goddess before?

With determination, I approached the gym, where the Cardio Commandments awaited me, inscribed on a post-it note on my fridge before leaving home: “Thou shalt run as if pursued by a chicken wing.” There’s something electrifying about cardio that invigorates the spirit—or at least prepares us for a marathon that exists only in our nightmares.
